Brothers Kevin Jacobsen and Col Joye established the Jacobsen
Group in the early 1960’s. Today, the name
‘Jacobsen’ is synonymous with the
entertainment industry.
The Company is managed by a leading team of Australian
entertainment professionals and provides some of the best entertainment nationally and internationally.
The Jacobsen Group
became a diverse business, its primary expertise
being the presentation and promotion of live entertainment
and the management and direction of venues and
facilities. It encompasses many facets of the
entertainment industry including concerts, opera,
theatre, live spectaculars, sporting events, festivals,
exhibitions, artist bookings, artist management,
studios, music publishing, a recording label,
television production, and venue and facility
management. Jacobsen Entertianment Limited operated
a theatrical division and a concert division.
The Jacobsen Group started by presenting its own
shows, expanding to touring the best Australian
artists of the 1960’s; it toured more artists
in the 1970’s and 1980’s than any
other Australian promoter. Embracing a broader
business strategy of diversification and risk
reduction, during the 1990’s the Jacobsen
Group decided to expand into musical theatre productions
presenting only a handful of very high profile
concerts and special events. In the late 1990’s,
the Jacobsen Group began increasing its touring
presence with its strong list of established clients
and selected new up and coming artists who are
now amongst the highest grossing touring artist.
In 2002 Jacobsen secured the world rights to present the musical Dirty Dancing - The Classic Story n Stage based on the highly successful film written by Eleanor Bergstein. The show was created, developed and premiered in Sydney Australia in November 2004 where it played to capacity houses. It is currently enjoying huge success in London’s West End, Toronto and Utrecht (the Netherlands) with the North American premiere and pre-Broadway production to open on 19th October 2008 and Berlin (Germany) scheduled to open in March 2009.
The company encompasses the operation of several of the world’s most renowned venues, which have hosted some of the world’s largest stage and live entertainment events.
The new Vector Arena in Auckland (13,000 capacity), which opened in early 2007 is operated by Jacobsen Venue Management (JVM), which is part of the Jacobsen Group of companies.
Vector Arena has, over this short time, established itself as the entertainment hub of the South Pacific. Vector Arena was listed in the top five venues in the world in terms of event revenue and attendees (under 15,000 seats), as noted in the US magazine ‘Venues Today’ in July 2008 edition. |
